Traces of light cut through the darkness.
Fleeting images appear and fade.
Afterimages linger in the space, giving rise to moments of emotional connection.

Spectral Crossings is a spatial media artwork in which
AI-generated facial forms and intangible flows of emotion unfold through light and movement,
forming a single, continuous narrative within the space.
What was once unseen briefly reveals itself through flashes of light,
meeting the viewer’s senses directly.

At the beginning of the work, viewers encounter
“non-existent faces” created by AI.
These faces do not represent specific individuals.
Instead, they carry the contours of emotions we repeatedly encounter in everyday life
joy and sorrow, tension and memory.
Derived from vast datasets of faces and emotional expressions,
they embody a universal emotional form,
holding the potential to become anyone’s face.

As the faces are etched in light, they gradually dissolve,
transforming into a continuous flow of illumination.
This emotional energy then extends into the space through
144 crystal structures, each reflecting and refracting light through rhythmic motion.
Together, they render emotion as a physical presence within the environment.

Within this space, the viewer is not a distant observer,
but a participant encountering emotion through light.
Rather than explaining emotion, Spectral Crossings offers an experience
one that reveals how emotion appears, moves, and quietly passes from one presence to another.
